In the current context of digital transformation, market globalization and consolidation of major players on an international scale, it is necessary to reflect on the innovation strategy of Quebec’s creative and cultural companies to ensure they remain competitive in an increasingly consolidated market.

For over a year now, Zú has been developing a series of open innovation initiatives designed to present Quebec-based companies and cultural institutions with the opportunities and benefits of applying and using the technological solutions developed by Zú-supported startups.

With this in mind, 7 startups incubated at Zú visited the offices of TAIT  (formerly Thinkwell), a world leader in live experiences. This first visit marks the launch of an initiative designed to accelerate innovation and strengthen synergies between small and large companies in the cultural and creative industries (CCI). The aim is first and foremost to create a local pool of first customers for startups, consolidate their primary market, and accelerate their commercialization, but also to learn from the big players, gain knowledge and stimulate their ambition.

A look back at the visit

During the visit, the entrepreneurs benefited from privileged access to concrete knowledge, outside the usual framework of the programs offered. By drawing inspiration from the working methods of major players in their sector, they discovered new ways to optimize their own processes. The event gave them the opportunity to exchange ideas with industry leaders, nurture their ambition to “think big” and leave with a broader perspective on their company’s growth potential.

The startups were warmly welcomed by Antoine Roy-Larouche, Chief Operating Officer, and Hugues Sweeney, President of TAIT Creative (Montreal). The latter, who is also a mentor at Zú, took the time to meet the entrepreneurs and share his expertise.

Several key members of the TAIT team, including Émilie F. Grenier, Principal, Daphnée Nadeau, Producer, Tina Blakeney, Director of Project Development and mentor at Zú, and Thiéry Adam, Executive Producer, also took part in the meeting. In addition to outlining the organization’s main lines of development, they explained how their organizational structure fosters collaboration between their teams spread across 20 offices worldwide, and shared an exclusive insight into a fast-growing project.

Finally, the startups had the opportunity to take part in an “elevator pitch” round, where they presented their company and the potential of the technologies they were developing to Mr. Sweeney.
